BASH Mission statement To provide a supportive atmosphere for individuals with and without disabilities to seek mental and physical well-being through the sport of hockey. BASH increases a player's quality of life by building relationships, improved confidence and having fun.
The program was started when John Morris became a paraplegic from an accident in 2012 . He said he would be so happy if he could get back on the ice. With a group of friends and family along with Cardinal Hill Foundation, sled hockey was brought to Lexington, KY. Our intentions was for the first year to start the program as a recreational team getting people to know about sled hockey and get involved. As the league progresses we hope to form a competitive team with players throughout Kentucky. The league received two grants making the opportunity to purchase all the equipment plus jerseys to play the game. The Burning Stick Foundation and Roger Sharer Grant enabling us to have 14 sleds, helmets, protective gear, pucks and sticks for anyone who wants to play. Each October John holds a golf tournament to raise money for ice time and expenses of the league.
We do not make any one pay to participate. That will always be the goal of the league. Ice time can be very expensive so donations are always welcomed. Sponsorships are available for the golf tournament held each year with this being the fifth annual.
